Pilot dies in Fishers plane crash

Fishers emergency personnel on Thursday morning received a report of a plane crash at Indianapolis Metropolitan Airport, located east of Allisonville Road just north of 96th Street.

Airport authorities reported the pilot was killed in the accident. Hamilton County Coroner John Chalfin is pending release of the pilot’s name until an autopsy can be conducted.

Witnesses reported seeing a small single engine aircraft approaching the airport at a steep angle.  Investigators have not released an official cause of the accident, but believe the plane may have missed the airport’s single runway.

Indiana State Police Public Information Officer, John Perrine, stated the National Transportation Agency and the Federal Aviation Authority will lead the investigation into the crash.
