When she swam at Carmel High School for two years (2014-15), Amy Bilquist won eight state titles at the IU Natatorium.
The big pool in downtown Indianapolis has been a great place for the University of California junior-to-be, and she made another splash in it Thursday at the Phillips 66 National Championships. Bilquist placed fifth in the women’s 50 backstroke during the evening “A” final.
Bilquist’s finals time was 28.25, an improvement of 0.39 seconds over her morning preliminary time.
Two other Carmel swimmers picked up wins in their respective heats during the evening finals. Veronica Burchill won the “B” final in the women’s 100 butterfly, giving her an official ninth-place finish. Drew Kibler was first in the “C” final of the men’s 100 butterfly, placing him 17th overall.
As for other Carmel swimmers, Wyatt Davis finished 21st in the men’s 50 backstroke and Lauren Edelman was 22nd in the women’s 400 medley.
