Peter Michael “Pete” Amstutz

June 9, 1973 – August 11, 2018

Peter Michael “Pete” Amstutz, Enterprise, Ala., passed away on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Medical Center Enterprise. He was 45.

Pete was born June 9, 1973, in Fort Huachuca, Ariz. He was a recipient of the The Soldiers Medal and retired from the United States Army on May 31, 2012 after more than 20 years of service. Initially, he served his country as a medic in Germany, Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., Fort Campbell, Ky., and Tripler Army Medical Center, Hawaii. Subsequently, he attended Flight School in Fort Rucker, Ala., and then returned to Fort Campbell, where he served two tours in Iraq as a medivac helicopter pilot.

Following his retirement, he continued to serve his country as a flight instructor at Fort Rucker, Ala., and then as a civilian contractor in Afghanistan. While in the Army, he flew UH60 Blackhawks, and the last aircraft he flew as a civilian was the Eurocopter Super Puma. He loved to fly and serve his country, but most of all, he loved his God, his wife and kids, his family, and all of the men and women with whom he served while protecting his country.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, H. Clair Amstutz and Florence Amstutz.

Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Yvonne Amstutz, Enterprise, Ala.; four children, Breanna Bobbie Amstutz, Zakary Peter Amstutz, Jordan Yvonne Amstutz and Zoey Ann Amstutz, all of Enterprise, Ala.; parents, John and Lois Amstutz, Noblesville, and Larry and Leslie Barton, Athens, Mich.; seven brothers and sisters, Christine Winfrey, Apple Valley, Minn., Rebecca Amstutz, Apple Valley, Minn., Mark Amstutz, Noblesville, Jeffrey Barton, Nashville, Tenn., Matt Barton, Vicksburg, Mich., Chris Barton, Battle Creek, Mich., and Danie Matusik, Chelsea, Mich.

Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 18, 2018 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory, Enterprise, Ala. The family will receive friends at the funeral home at 2 p.m. on Saturday and continuing until service time.
