Team agrees in principle to acquire draft rights to Furphy

As part of the 2024 NBA Draft, the Indiana Pacers selected Tristen Newton with the 49th pick and Enrique Freeman with the 50th pick in the second round. The team also agreed in principle to acquire the draft rights to Johnny Furphy from the San Antonio Spurs in a trade that is not yet final.
Johnny Furphy, the 35th pick in the draft, is a 6-8, 189-pound guard/forward from the University of Kansas. Originally from Melbourne, Australia; Furphy was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman team for the 2023-24 season.
With the 49th pick in the draft, the Pacers selected two-time National Champion Tristen Newton from the University of Connecticut. Newton, a 6-3, 192-pound guard, was named to the 2023 NCAA Final Four All-Tournament Team and was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2024 NCAA Tournament. For the 2023-24 season he also won the Bob Cousy Award and was an All-American First Team selection.
Freeman, the 50th pick in the draft, is 6-7, 212-pound forward from the University of Akron. He was a four-time MAC All-Defensive team member, two-time First-Team All-MAC member, two-time MAC Tournament MVP (2022, 2024) and won 2022 MAC Defensive Player of the Year.
