Ouch!

From the Heart

So, what do frozen hot dog buns, frozen sweet potato fries and frozen green beans all have in common?

Stay tuned and read on.

It was Monday afternoon and I was on a mission to check on some parts for a customer. The rain had created a few wet spots. I found one.

The next thing I knew, I felt my foot slip and my ankle turn. I felt myself pitching forward. It was as if my head was racing with my knee for a landing. My hand tried to catch my body from hitting the concrete floor. It failed to do so.

Boom!

My first thought was, “Oh no, who saw me?” My second thought was, “Oh no, I’m hurt!”

I felt like I had been in a head-on collision with a concrete wall, which in a way, I had.

As I assessed my parts that were hurt, I kept thinking, how in the world did I hit so many body parts? It was like being in a pinball machine.

It all happened so quickly, yet, it was as if I was falling in slow motion.

Everyone kept insisting I go get checked out. I’m usually one who can shake off a little pain but this was too much to shake off.

The medical staff at the Med Check found a sprained left ankle, bruised and swollen right knee, broken bones in my right hand and a mild concussion.

Yes, when I do something, I do it with gusto. Let’s just say I put my entire body into it. It was a painful rendition of the Hokey Pokey.

I was given an ankle brace, soft cast for my hand and concussion rules for my head. Lots of NOs! I was told to put ice on everything that hurt.

I did not tell Chuck what happened until he came home from keeping the scoreboard for the Colts. I knew he would worry.

So, it was about midnight when he got home. He walked into the bedroom where I lay with frozen hot dog buns on my ankle, frozen sweet potato fries on my knee and frozen green beans on my hand.

He said, “Honey, what did you do?” I told him to sit down and I would explain why I had a frozen full meal deal in bed with me. It took a while to explain all that had occurred and what all was hurt.

I told him that we needed to restock the freezer and I knew what my column would be about this week.

I had to type this quickly as I am only allowed a short time on the computer. Concussion rules.

By the way, yes, it was caught on the surveillance video. I’ve been told that it wasn’t pretty. OUCH!
