Carmel, the defending Class 6A state champion, got its 2020 season off to a solid start with a 31-6 victory at Plainfield on Friday night.
Zach Osborne led the way for the 6A No. 2 Greyhounds, as he had a hand – but mostly a foot – in all four of Carmel’s touchdowns. Osborne started with an eight-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter to get the ‘Hounds ahead 7-0.
In the second quarter, Osborne found Colton Parker for a 14-yard pass play score at the midway point of the period. Later, Osborne made another short jog into the end zone, scoring from three yards out.
Finally, Osborne notched his third touchdown run with 8:29 left, taking the ball in from the six-yard line. Spencer Hanna completed the Carmel scoring with a fourth-quarter field goal; he also made all four extra-point kicks.
The Greyhounds had an efficient rushing night, needing 29 carries to gain 208 yards. Osborne led the running game with 58 yards, with Zach White adding 53 yards in nine carries.
Osborne completed 12 of 21 passes for 109 yards. Parker caught seven of those receptions for 63 yards, including the touchdown pass.
The ‘Hounds return home next Friday for a big game: Class 5A No. 3 Cathedral will come to Carmel Stadium for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
