OneZone glad for “sense of relief” provided by law addressing COVID-19 employer liability

The OneZone Chamber of Commerce issued the following statement this week after the passage of Senate Bill 1 into law, which addresses employer liability regarding COVID-19.

“With the recent signature of the employer liability legislation into law by Governor Eric Holcomb, it provides our business community a sense of relief. SB 1 gives businesses who follow public safety guidelines for their employees, vendors, and customers protection from frivolous lawsuits that might occur from the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This legislation is crucial for protecting employers in our cities, county, region, and state and for keeping our economy open and running despite the worldwide health crisis.

“While this bill was introduced in the Senate, we do want to thank Representative Jerry Torr (R-Carmel) who sponsored the legislation in the House and held a crucial role in ensuring this bill became law.

“Employer liability protection was a OneZone legislative priority and we are proud to check this off our list so early this session and thank each legislator who supported this bill. Your vote has helped many large and small business across the state.”
