NPD releases more details on Tuesday’s attack, fatal pursuit

On Tuesday, Noblesville police officers responded to the area of 14199 Blanket Flower Lane in reference to a distress call from an off-duty NPD officer.

Police say, based on witness statements and evidence at the scene, off-duty NPD officer Haley Lutz was in her police vehicle with her father, Craig Lutz, when she was flagged down to assist with a disturbance between a man and a woman.

The man, identified as Edward Albright of Noblesville, attacked Officer Lutz and her father prior to driving off in the marked patrol car.

Witness reports indicate Officer Lutz was choked, battered and sprayed with pepper spray by Albright. Her father was also sprayed with pepper spray and battered during the incident.

After Albright fled the scene in the squad car. He then dumped the police car and stole a Toyota Avalon from the parking lot of Sherwin-Williams on Britton Park Road in Fishers.

A Noblesville Police officer responding to the scene located Albright traveling at a high rate of speed in the wrong lane of travel on 141st Street, and a pursuit began. Several police agencies chased Albright into Montgomery County, where the pursuit ended in a fatal accident that killed Albright.

Officer Lutz and her father were treated and released for injuries sustained in the altercation with Albright.
