As Indiana prepares to host “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” with the 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500 on May 27, race fans and residents alike can get their motors revved here in Noblesville thanks to the 500 Forward’s Indy Wings program.
“We are excited to partner with 500 Forward to celebrate the Indy 500 and what the month of May means here in Noblesville,” said Mayor John Ditslear. “The Indianapolis 500 holds a special place in the hearts of all Hoosiers, but it means a little more to the hometowns of drivers. Noblesville has been fortunate to have Conor Daly and Bryan Clauson represent our city and showcase their talents on the national stage since 2012.”
A 12-foot by 12-foot sign has been mounted on the wall at Federal Hill Commons in Downtown Noblesville facing Conner Street. The sign states: “This is Noblesville. This is May” and includes areas sized for adults, children and pets with wings – an ode to the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway “Wing and Wheel” logo. The sign will remain up throughout May.
“As we prepare to kick off our summer programming Friday, having the Indy Wings sign is another great attraction for park visitors to enjoy at Federal Hill Commons,” Noblesville Parks Director Brandon Bennett said. “The sign looks fantastic and we encourage everyone to come check it out, take photos with it and use #IndyWings when you share it on social media.”
500 Forward is a collaborative community effort between IMS, partner organizations and individuals to offer programming and events that celebrate the month of May and support a broad array of community initiatives. Now in its second year, the Indy Wings program is a partnership with the Arts Council of Indianapolis and artist Aaron Scamihorn, who created the art piece. Additional signs are up in Westfield, Broad Ripple, Fountain Square, Mass Ave and Main Street in Speedway.
“These fantastic wings give everyone in Central Indiana the opportunity to showcase their Indy 500 pride in a fun and creative way. We’re so excited Noblesville has partnered with 500 Forward to celebrate the 102nd Running and support our décor program,” Hulman Motorsports Senior Vice President of Events Allison Melangton said.
Noblesville’s Daly will attempt to make the field for his fifth Indy 500 this month. His No. 17 Thom Burns Racing Honda is sponsored by the U.S. Air Force.
