Dear Editor:

There once was a time in America when voting for school board members was a simple matter of selecting folks with financial competence and a heart for their community.

Those days are gone.

Today it’s common across America for out-of-town, even out-of-state special interest groups to fund culture-warrior candidates bent on reshaping schools and libraries to reflect their narrow view of the world, people, religion, and history.

That’s why this is a time of book bans in America, a time when school plays that are inclusive and respectful of all people get canceled because culture warriors object. It’s a time when textbooks get sanitized, removing the Civil Rights Movement and slavery, under the new-found belief that it hurts the feelings of certain children. This is a time when we see teachers and administrators across the country attacked with odd accusations and conspiracy theories.

If you’re like me and most Americans, you fear for the future of your schools if such forces and their agenda were to take control of your local school board.

That is why I am supporting Christi Crosser, Stephanie Lambert, and Bret Richardson for Noblesville school board. All three are mainstream thinkers who respect scientists, historians, and teachers. Each has been involved in our schools for years and each have put their own children through Noblesville Schools.

I participated in the Miller Ambassador program last year, an outreach program that gives participants an in-depth view of how our schools function, the services they offer, and the curriculum that is taught. I came away overwhelmed with pride in our community and the caring professionals who teach our children and manage the educational process.

These good people need support from well rounded, level-headed school board members like Christi Crosser and Stephanie Lambert, who already serve on the school board, and from my good friend Bret Richardson, who is running for the first time.
