Dear Editor:
Noblesville voters, where were you? Did you not vote thinking it would be okay? Now we are headed for more of the current administration. More crooked decisions without the input of us the residents and citizens. Some of us have been here our whole lives and we will be here beyond.
My father was born in a 2 room shanty. He and my mother built onto the house for their 3 children. Now mom is in Heaven and Dad survives cancer. I moved home to care for him. I am concerned about the devious decisions that are made without any concern to the residents of Noblesville. Old Town Noblesville and yes I hate that term. We are not Old Town. Because we aren’t the Harbours or the Wellingtons or Hamilton Town Center … I’m not alone in my feelings.
Now what’s to happen to our town? More decisions beyond our control. More 3-4 lane roads taking out more houses. More bad decisions without our input. More Carmel and less Noblesville. I can imagine someday the development of a subdivision in my neighborhood. Without my approval they can just condemn the property and take it.
More development and change we the people don’t agree with. Like they have before with the development of 5 story buildings. Apartments that Noblesville don’t need or can afford. How about we think more about our teens and seniors. We need things for our teens and young and old to do. Do you not remember them taking our train? Trails will bring more crime and you mark my words. Just you watch and see.
The skating rink and the game shops are long gone. I remember the teens going to play pinball and games. Gee, I wonder why you all think our teens are turning to crime and drugs. Let’s just open another work out center nobody needs or wants. Let’s get back to the basics and bring back some of the 70s for a better Noblesville.
It’s happening in Westfield too. Look at the changes. Not all high class development is good. If you think it won’t happen in your town think again. Push us to the side. Someday you too will be old and pushed to the side and your voice won’t count. It’s called Karma! I’m sad for Noblesville!
After I voted, on my way home I witnessed Mike Corbett walking my neighborhood. Yes he was sweating. I thought to myself, Wow he will make a great mayor! He works hard for Noblesville and he is what we need. At this point all I can do is PRAY. Pray I’m wrong and pray our new mayor listens to us and works for us not against us! We the People of Noblesville deserve that.

How many roller rinks are left in the US? There are like 2 in all of Indy. Noblesville government has no responsibility in keeping a completely dead activity in business. Game shops? Everyone’s phones have better games. The world is changing and thinking we can go back is a waste of time. Personally I am of the age that LOVED indoor shopping malls and they are going way. I understand it. Things that I loved will not be the things my kids love and that is OK.
As far as the comment on apartments I am guessing you mean the coming downtown complex and I am quite sure that will have a waiting list for occupancy as soon as it opens. It is a HUGE need for downtown to move forward. A downtown like that can die like many small towns across the state or it can move forward and become vital. Downtown and river is the thing Noblesville has over Carmel, Fishers, and Westfield. It needs to be maximized. Yes, housing costs will go up, but you cannot have a vibrant downtown with shopping and food without people pumping money into it.
The thought of government trying to get a developer to open a roller rink in 2019 is the stuff that should only be found on TV for us to laugh at. That is not an ‘if you build it they will come’ proposition, that’s delusionally out of touch with reality today. I had a great time at roller rinks as a kid even in the 90s, and kids still have fun at them today for an occasional party or something, but they’re nothing more than a novelty today – no kid and especially no teens are going to hang out at them. Westfield had an esports center and even that closed down (I suspect due to location though, honestly.) You can’t just remember the 70s and presume anything from that era will be of the slightest interest to teens in 2019. During one of the televised mayoral candidate talks I believe there was a question pertaining to what they’d do to give teens something to do, and while watching then dodge that hardball I was trying to think about what I would even suggest as a possibility to answer that question, even if I had unlimited resources – and I still don’t really have an answer for it. Bring in faster internet providers maybe? Things aren’t what they used to be and there’s no point in dwelling on that.
