The Noblesville Parks Department and Parks Foundation has been making improvements to the “Little Beauty” Carousel at Forest Park to make the amenity a destination for families this summer.
Built in 1920, the Allen Herschell Company Carousel was installed in the park in 1996 and is considered one of a kind. One of the most popular attractions at Forest Park, “Little Beauty” has 20 jumping horses and two chariots with a seating capacity of 32. This year marks Noblesville Parks’ first season as operator of the iconic amenity.
The Noblesville Parks Foundation completed restoration work, including repainting murals on the carousel by local artist Scott Shoemaker, in 2018. The parks department is making improvements with new flooring and countertops in the concession area, and the addition of a soft serve ice cream machine and exterior serving window.
The Carousel Corner, which includes the Tom Thumb Miniature Golf Course, will open in May. To oversee the area, the parks department is seeking a temporary carousel attendant. The position is seasonal and runs from May to October to greet guests, monitor and maintain the facilities and equipment, and operate the concession stand. Hourly pay ranges from $10 to $12 depending on experience. Workers will be scheduled during weekend hours in May, August, September and October and up to 40 hours per week during June and July when the Carousel Corner extends its hours.
“The carousel attendant is a new opportunity to be involved with the launch of the Carousel Corner,” said Recreation Director Nichole Haberlin. “As the parks department takes over the operations of the historic carousel in the park, we look forward to building the carousel team and providing a great experience for the community to enjoy carousel rides, party rentals, mini golf and other activities.”
