Beginning tonight and running through the weekend, Noblesville Parks and Recreation has lined up a free series of special family-friendly events to get residents and guests outdoors.
“The Noblesville Parks Department is excited to kick off summer with a variety of events in addition to the normal amenities that we offer,” Noblesville Assistant Parks Director Mike Hoffmeister said. “We want people to be active and enjoy their first weekend of summer break.”
Thursday, May 31 – The Summer Concert Series kicks off from 7 to 9 p.m. with Big 80’s Band at Dr. James Dillon Park, 6351 Midland Lane. Guests are welcome to bring their own food and beverages to enjoy while in attendance. For the full Summer Concert Series lineup, visit noblesvilleparks.org.
Friday, June 1 – Hot on the heels of an exciting Indianapolis 500 comes Noblesville’s sprint through downtown. The 8th Annual Darlington Bed Race will begin at 7 p.m. with teams competing on Ninth Street for the trophy and prizes. The contest involves racing custom designed beds on wheels and provides an enjoyable experience for onlookers and participants alike while raising money for financial-need scholarships for summer camp programming for area youth. The action is fun for racers and spectators alike.
Saturday, June 2 – At Federal Hill Commons, the morning will host the weekly Noblesville Farmers Market from 8 a.m. to noon. At night, the Concerts at the Commons, presented by Myers Construction Management, Inc., will return to First Merchants Pavilion. Cosmic Situation will open the show at 7 p.m. and 16 Candles will perform all the great songs from the ’80s you love from 8 to 10 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday, June 2-3 – The Department of Natural Resources is offering free fishing all weekend. A great place to take your family fishing is Hague Road Nature Haven, off Hague Road between State Roads 38 and 32. Fishing licenses are not needed this weekend to participate.
The Noblesville Parks Department also will offer free fun activities throughout the summer from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Seminary and Southside parks. Park staff will be on site with its Rec2Go van and equipment to keep kids entertained and active in the parks. Beginning the week of June 4 and running through July 26 – with the exception of the Fourth of July week – the recreation staff will be at Seminary Park on Tuesdays and at Southside Park on Thursdays.
