The Mayor’s Youth Council is seeking applicants for the 2019-2020 school year to provide Noblesville’s young people a voice in government and an active role in addressing youth issues. The program is free and open to students who live in or attend school in Noblesville – this includes students who attend public schools, private schools, or homeschooled students.

The council will select two incoming eighth graders and the remaining members will be filled by high school students. Noblesville Mayor John Ditslear said the council is looking for students of outstanding character to represent the voice of young people in city government.

“Serving on the Mayor’s Youth Council is a great way to start actively participating in city government at a young age,” said Ditslear. “The program allows teens to gain leadership experience and complete a project of their choosing as a group to help make Noblesville a better place.”

The 2018-2019 school year is the inaugural group of the Mayor’s Youth Council.

“This has been an exciting year for the council as they discovered what they wanted to become and their vision moving forward,” said Ditslear. “It has been a great experience to have face-to-face time with the students. They have been enthusiastic and engaged at meetings and with each other.”

MYC will advise the mayor on issues relevant to youth, learn about municipal government and the importance of civic participation, and discuss and educate their peers on council initiatives. The council allows teens to gain leadership experience and help make Noblesville a better place. Students also complete a project of their choosing as a group to better the community.

Applications for the 2019-2020 school year must be postmarked or delivered by Monday, May 6. Completed applications can be sent to council advisor Michelle Glodowski, Mayor’s Office, 16 S. 10th St., Noblesville, IN 46060.
