Noblesville mayoral candidate Chris Jensen lays out plan to protect, enhance historic downtown

As part of the Noblesville’s Next Chapter policy agenda, Noblesville mayoral candidate Chris Jensen has announced his plan to protect and enhance Noblesville’s historic downtown.

“Noblesville is one of the best places in Indiana to live, work and raise a family because of our history, traditions and the strength of our city’s community. Our historic downtown and Courthouse Square are at the heart of those traditions and community,” Jensen said. “As past generations protected downtown for us, we need to preserve and enhance that legacy to ensure an even better Noblesville for generations to come.”

“As a lifelong Noblesville resident, I believe the best investment we can make for our city is in our historic downtown,” said Darren Peck, Vice President of Indiana Restoration and Jensen for Noblesville Downtown Preservation & Planning Committee Co-Chair. “Chris’ plan will keep Noblesville’s character intact while expanding our best asset.”

The Noblesville’s Next Chapter Agenda policy platform is made up of four key pillars that drive Jensen’s campaign: Transforming public safety, protecting and enhancing historic downtown, strong and sustainable workforce development, and smart infrastructure investment.

“I’m proud to operate my small business in the heart of downtown Noblesville and I’m dedicated to protecting its unique atmosphere and environment,” said Craig Crosser, Co-Owner of Nova 29 and Jensen for Noblesville Downtown Preservation & Planning Committee Co-Chair. “Chris is ready to work with Noblesville’s businesses to make sure our downtown remains the city’s economic center.”

Jensen’s plan focuses on three core areas for preserving and enhancing downtown:

  • Smart planning: Downtown is a unique identifier that the city needs to remain committed to preserving. Especially as the riverfront grows, diligent, community-involved and transparent planning is essential. Making sure Noblesville has the right mix of places to shop, eat, live and play is crucial to growing the downtown while preserving its historic character.
  • Embracing the arts: As the heart of Noblesville’s daily life, the city should seek partnerships to make downtown the city’s artistic and cultural center as well. Working with existing county organizations such as Nickel Plate Arts, Hamilton County Tourism and the Noblesville Cultural Arts Commission, the city can jumpstart efforts to make the Main Street corridor an arts destination for Noblesville residents and visitors.
  • Connectivity: Simply put, the downtown should be easy to access. Whether you’re walking, riding or driving, the city should invest in making it easier to get downtown. As a concrete first step, the city should expand Noblesville’s urban trail network to connect neighborhoods with the city center.
