At approximately 3:07 p.m. on Sunday, police officers from the Noblesville Police Department responded to the area of 19570 Cumberland Road, Noblesville, in reference to a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian.
Based on preliminary information, it appears that a 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis was traveling northbound on Cumberland Road when a pedestrian unexpectedly ran into the path of the Mercury. The driver indicated that he was unable to stop his vehicle in time to avoid colliding with the pedestrian. The pedestrian suffered significant injuries as a result of the crash and was transported by ambulance to I.U. Health Methodist in Indianapolis in critical condition.
At approximately 12:09 a.m. on Monday, crash investigators received word from staff at I.U. Health Methodist that the pedestrian had succumbed to his injuries from the crash. The pedestrian has been identified as James O. Cross, Jr., 91, Noblesville.
The driver of the Mercury is identified as George A. Allen, 85, Cicero. Allen was not injured as a result of the crash. There was one passenger in the vehicle and that passenger was reported to be uninjured.
Travel on Cumberland Road between Allisonville Road and Mallery Drive was restricted or closed until approximately 5 p.m. on Sunday as investigators from the NPD Accident Reconstruction Unit collected information for the crash investigation.
At this time, it does not appear that alcohol, drugs or weather contributed to the cause of the crash.
