If you are a basketball fan (and who isn’t that lives in Indiana?) and you have seen the movie Hoosiers (and again, who hasn’t?) then we have a rare opportunity.

Just over 71 years ago on a cold day in March 1954, a tiny high school of 161 students located in Milan, Ind., defeated the giant high school Muncie Central with 1,662 students to win the state basketball championship. This team achieved what has become known as the Milan Miracle that inspired the movie, Hoosiers.

The Noblesville Lions will have the honor of recognizing four of the remaining team members at the club’s annual Grillin’ on the Square event.

Come to the big white Lions Club Tent on the Courthouse Square in Noblesville from 4 to 5:30 p.m. this Friday, June 6

Original Milan Basketball Team Members attending will include Rollin Cutter, Bobby Plump, Roger Schroder, and Gene White.

Please plant to come meet these men, get pictures with them, get a signed team photo (only 100 available), and participate in a silent auction for several items of memorabilia. Of course, while you are there, enjoy some of our fine grilled pork chops and chicken dinners with all the sides, all while contributing to our great Noblesville community. All proceeds will be distributed back to the community by the Noblesville Lions Club. Learn more at e-clubhouse.org/sites/noblesville.

What is the Lions Club?

Lions Club is the largest service organization in the world with over 1.4 million members with clubs in almost every country around the world.

The Noblesville Lions Club has been in existence for over 80 years and focuses on supporting kids, particularly related to vision, as we do vision screenings for preschoolers and the required screenings for third, fifth, and eighth graders. We collect eyeglasses and hearing aids which we loan or donate to people in need. We mentor Noblesville High School students who have joined the “Leos Club” and provide numerous scholarships to graduating students.

Our motto is “We Serve” and are open to supporting as many opportunities as possible to help serve our community. For more details to become a Lion, please contact Jeff Kozicki at noblesvillelionsclub@gmail.com.
