Noblesville High School senior wins Distinguished Young Woman of Hamilton County title

Addie McMillan advances to state competition in February

Addie McMillan, senior at Noblesville High School (NHS), has won the 2024 Distinguished Young Woman of Hamilton County Scholarship Program held at Hamilton Heights High School on Dec. 17, 2023.

At NHS, McMillan is a Thespian Troupe Officer, and is involved in Singers Mixed Show Choir, NHS News Staff, and is the Student Director of the current spring play. She is a Conner Prairie Youth Volunteer and Interpreter, a 10-year member of 4-H, has performed in 13 musicals and eight plays, including lead roles. She also has numerous vocal solo performances around Hamilton County, including the Legacy Keepers Music Courthouse Concert Series.

Jane Sipe, Director of the Distinguished Young Women of Hamilton County program, said that “Addie won the scholarship competition based on her academic record, interview, public speaking, and talent. She will be an excellent representative of Hamilton County.”

McMillan will represent Hamilton County at the state competition Feb. 14 to 17 at Indiana University Kokomo. She will be joined by participants from around the state who have won their local competitions. Scholarships totaling $29,000 will be awarded at the state competition.

McMillan is the daughter of Charlie McMillan and Betsy Reason, both of Noblesville.

Founded in 1958 in Mobile, Ala., the Distinguished Young Women scholarship program is the largest and oldest national scholarship program for high school girls. In addition to providing life-changing experiences for more than 780,000 young women across the country, the organization has awarded more than $118 million in cash at the local, state, and national levels. Participants are also eligible for college-granted scholarships from colleges and universities around the country. Distinguished Young Women empowers young women to “Be Their Best Self” by developing self-confidence and the abilities to interview effectively, to speak in public, to perform on stage, and to build interpersonal relationships.

The state winner will travel to Mobile, Ala., to join all 50 state winners for two weeks in June to compete for the national title and more than $100,000 in college scholarships.
