The Noblesville gymnastics team placed third out of seven teams at Saturday’s Northwestern Invitational.
The Millers totaled a strong score of 97.875. The host Tigers won with 101.10, with Jay County second by scoring 98.00. Noblesville did have the all-around champion: Freshman Makayla Kauzlick earned a score of 35.25 to receive the blue ribbon.
“Makayla is only in her second competition in high school and she is doing fantastic,” said Millers coach Jody Ramey. “She is going to be a key player for our team this year, and she still has room for growth, which is very exciting.”
Kauzlick had both the highest score (9.05 on the vault) and highest place (second on the uneven bars) for Noblesville. Meanwhile, Olivia Mangin finished fourth on the vault with an 8.825. Ramey said Mangin competed with new handspring vault, and is “doing very well at it.”
On the balance beam, Kauzlick, Devyn Palmer and Mangin all had beam sticks.
“I am proud of our team today on beam as three out of the five gymnasts competing for us today had a “beam stick,” which shows consistency and confidence in this event,” said Ramey. “This is always important to have and will certainly be important when it is time for sectionals.”
The Millers are back in action next Saturday when they travel to the Western Invitational.
