Noblesville gymnastics starts season with victories

The Noblesville gymnastics team opened its season Thursday with a win at a three-team meet at Roncalli.
The Millers scored 97.475 to the Rebels’ 94.625, with Scecina scoring 57.975. Noblesville won three of the four events and had the all-around winner: Freshman Makayla Kauzlick scored 33.775. Junior Devyn Palmer was third and sophomore Olivia Mangin took fifth.
“Makayla is going to be a very strong gymnast for our team and we are very happy to have her aboard,” said Millers coach Jody Ramey. “She was easily able to win this competition.
“Devyn also has a show choir background and this is easy to see as she performs. She is so fun to watch on floor as she owns the stage.”
Kauzlick took two events: The vault with a 9.00, the highest score of the night for any gymnast. She also was first in the uneven bars with 8.775. Sophomore Olivia Mangin won the balance beam by scoring 8.00.
Noblesville scored a total of 26.10 on the vault, an event in which the Millers are traditionally strong.
“This was a great start our season with a team total score of vault of 26.1,” said Ramey. “I am very proud of how we performed tonight on vault as Olivia Mangin had her career/season high score tonight. Lauren Murray attempted a handspring full vault was able to pull off a great score for her first time competing this vault in competition.
