The Noblesville girls varsity lacrosse team won its sectional championship on Wednesday in a hard-fought battle with rival Hamilton Southeastern Royals by a score of 14-13.
This improved the Millers record for the season to 13-8-1 and advancing them into the regionals with one of the top seeds.
The Millers held a 7-5 lead with 9:10 left in the first half when Freshman Emma Potter scored her third goal of the game. The Royals scored two goals at the 4:23 and 3:50 marks in the first half and the Millers scored again with only 45 seconds left in the half to make the halftime score 8-7.
The Royals started the second half hot, scoring four goals in the first five minutes to take the lead 11-8. The Millers called a timeout to regroup. Junior Kat Green scored at the 15:55 mark to begin the Millers’ come back. The Millers tallied six goals in the final 16 minutes of the game while holding the Royals to only two goals.
The Millers were led offensively by Green with six goals, Potter with four goals and junior Kylie Morris with two goals. The trio of Green, Potter and Morris also controlled 14 draws throughout the game. Defensively, the Millers were lead by a strong team defense by juniors Erin Wilson, Meredith Miller and Grace Hammond, while junior Olivia Long shut down Lauren Madden of the Royals, who had scored seven goals in Royals first sectional game on Monday.
The Millers now await the pairings to be released for the regional, which will begin Tuesday, May 22.
