The weather couldn’t have been more favorable for the IHSAA cross country state championships at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country course Saturday in Terre Haute. Sunny skies and seasonably warm fall temperatures gave runners from across the state the perfect weather to compete for state championships, both as a team and individuals.
The Noblesville Millers girls cross country team did something it has never done. The Millers can now add the 2022 state championship to their trophy collection. This is a first in program history.

Noblesville led all teams with 122 points, with top-ranked Columbus North finishing second with 153, the fifth-ranked Carmel Greyhounds were third with 177, No. 4 Homestead wound up fourth with 187 and third-ranked North Central rounded out the top five with 197 points. That gave Hamilton County two teams to reach the podium.
No. 15 Guerin Catholic (332) was 11th and ninth-rated Hamilton Southeastern (357) ended its season in 15th.
The individual champion Lily Cridge from Bishop Chatard, who made it back-to-back state titles with a time of 17:14.6.
Guerin Catholic senior Bridget Gallagher finished sixth (17:59.8) and Hamilton Southeastern junior Maggie Powers was 16th (18:26.5), with both earning All-State honors. Gallagher was also named the Mental Attitude Award winner.
The Millers were able to get six runners in the top 45, which was a big plus in bolstering them to their first team state title. They bunched five of those from 34-45. Carmel also ran in a pack, including five from places 47-77.
