The Noblesville Creates 11th annual Comic Book in Day Challenge, presented by Browning Day, will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. this Saturday, Jan. 20 in the Ignite Studio at the Hamilton East Public Library – Fishers. Noblesville Creates is immensely grateful for the event’s sponsors and supporters, and how community-centered the event is.
Noblesville Creates thanks Hamilton East Public Library in Fishers for its incredible partnership in co-hosting the event, providing the space at the Ignite Studio, and the help of library staff for the Challenge, Four Day Ray Brewing in Fishers for providing lunch for each of the participants, and Blick Art Materials and McInnis Construction for providing supplies for participants.
Registration is still open for the event; however, anyone is welcome to stop by throughout the day to check out the Challenge, meet and shop for artwork from the Featured Artists, and participate in some fun comic-themed art activities.
During the event, artists of all ages and skill levels will have the opportunity to craft a comic book entirely from scratch in just an eight-hour timeframe. Noblesville Creates’ Featured Artists, including Jackie Crofts, Stuart Sayger, Gavin Smith, and additional staff, will actively engage with attendees throughout the day, working alongside them while offering guidance, answering questions, and providing coaching.
Crofts is the artist of the coming-of-age crime comic Nutmeg and other self-published works. Sayger is an internationally renowned comic book artist who has produced interiors and covers for Lego Bionicle, DC Comics, IDW, Dynamite, his own book, Shiver in the Dark, and many others. Smith has worked on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (IDW), Star Trek: Resurgence (IDW), Dead Legends (A Wave Blue World), Heavy Metal Magazine, The Accelerators (Blue Juice Comics), and The Good Fight illustrating a story by Mark Waid, among many other titles.
This year, the Featured Artists will create an exclusive print featuring their artwork that will be autographed and given to each of the Challenge artists. Copies of the exclusive print will be for sale to visitors who stop by the library throughout the day of the Challenge. The copies will cost $10, with the proceeds going to help cover the cost of the event.
The artwork produced during the Challenge will be showcased in an exhibit at Ignite Studio and featured in a printed comic book, the cost of which is included in the registration fee for participants. Copies of the two-volume printed comic book from this year and years past will also be available for purchase – prices vary.
