Sometimes you hear someone say something somewhat simple, but it has a profound impact on your life. Perhaps it even feels like God purposely had you hear something just to reassure you of a truth you already knew.
Mel Robbins is a podcast host and popular author. She has taken the world by storm with her book, The Let Them Theory. One day I heard her say, “No matter what happens today, I can handle it.” This made me pause. What an empowering statement and outlook.
How many times do we let the fear of the unknown clutter our thoughts? I think it is what makes us human. The idea of taking back your own day and power with the mindset that you’re strong enough to handle anything that comes your way that day is something that many people, including me, need to hear sometimes.
Waking up and looking at the upcoming day filled with unknowns and potential negative things that could happen is not any way to live your life. It’s easy when something happens or you are struggling to assume the worst or even brace for impact. Many look at this as being prepared, but what does that do to your mind? Constantly assuming the worst just in the event that you’re not taken off guard is very unhealthy for your spirit.
What if you go to bed and instead of overthinking every conversation from that day and analyzing what you should have said and done differently, you go to bed with the perspective that tomorrow is a new day and no matter what, I am strong enough to face it and handle it with grace? This allows us to reclaim our own power.
We cannot control many factors in our lives. If you’re a person of faith, the unknown is a place we put our trust in God and His plan. You’ve made it this far. God isn’t just going to leave you now.
No matter what it is that you’re worrying about right now, tell yourself that no matter what you can handle it. No longer allow it the power to control your thoughts and fill your mind with fear.
This is a time in the year where winter is still here and it seems like spring is too far away. Some folks are struggling with seasonal depression. The holidays are over. Perhaps it feels like you’re alone and there isn’t much to look forward to right now, but let me remind you that no matter what happens today, YOU can handle it!
If you or someone you love is struggling with mental health or life feels overwhelming right now, reach out and get help. Talk to someone. Go for a walk. Turn off the news and call a friend.
You’re here for a reason, and you matter. Don’t ever let your mind tell yourself differently. You’re strong and you’re needed right now, and don’t you ever forget it.
