Weekly testing of Hamilton County’s outdoor emergency warning sirens will be suspended for the winter following the regular 11 a.m. test on Friday, Nov. 24.
Officials suspend tests during winter cold weather to prevent possible damage to the sirens from moisture freezing inside the mechanisms. Hamilton County Emergency Management will resume regular weekly tests of the sirens in the spring when temperatures permit.
While Hamilton County Emergency Management officials test and activate the outdoor warning sirens, the sirens are owned and maintained by area cities and towns. Even though testing is suspended, sirens are not turned off and communications tests are performed daily to ensure each siren is operational. In the case of an emergency, sirens are available for activation throughout the year.
