THE REPORTER

On Monday night at Dunker Field, Noblesville hosted Hamilton Heights in an all-county baseball game. It took a few innings for each teams’ bats to get going.

The Millers were the first to unleash its bats, but once they did, there was no stopping them on their way to an 8-4 home win.

After starter John Irion held Noblesville to eight fly ball outs in his three frames, allowing no hits and just two walks, the Millers were able to get to reliever Kaleb Murray in the fourth.

Bryce Riggs led off the home half of the fourth with a walk. Jack Shade then laced a line drive that ricocheted off of the first base bag, allowing Riggs to move from first to third.

Heights managed two hits and another two reached by fielder’s choice. Murray would be forced out at home and Adam Hughes grounded out to first to leave the bases loaded.

Aiden Ramsey singled in the infield to score Riggs for the first run and a 1-0 lead. Next, Jacob Edwards launched a 1-1 pitch over the left field fence for a three-run home run to extend the Miller lead to 4-0.

Senior southpaw Tommy Talarico’s comfort level on the mound increased as the game moved along. In just his second varsity appearance, Talarico struck out seven Huskies in six innings, allowing just four hits.

Noblesville tacked on another on an Aiden Ramsey single that was drilled up the middle, scoring Nolan Decker for a 5-0 count.

Dean Mason and Phoenix Vondersaar led off reaching by error for two runners aboard in the top of the sixth for the Huskies.

Talarico tallied two more strikeouts to his credit before Kyle Michael doubled down the left field line to score both Mason and Vondersaar, cutting this Miller lead to 5-2.

The Millers added a couple of insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Freshman Dillon Pitts started off his relief work in a hole. Josh Peek singled to left center. Conner Seago entered to pinch run for Peek. Tyler Utterback and Trevor Corbett had consecutive walks to load the bases.

Seago and Utterback each scored on wild pitches, pushing the lead to 7-2. Aiden Reynolds doubled to score pinch runner Logan Shoffner with ease to make it 8-2.

Senior Max Prohm started off the seventh out of the bullpen, but after three straight walks, he was relieved by Trevor Corbett.

The Huskies mustered two runs in the top of the seventh, but Corbett halted their comeback bid, striking out Alex Rickey for the final out to seal it.

Hamilton Heights (7-6) ended its four-game winning streak on Monday. Then, they lost their second in a row on Tuesday at Northwestern, 6-5.
