Nicole Murphy tapped to lead Carmel human resources

A seasoned human resources leader with experience in municipal services will serve as human resources director for the City of Carmel, Zac Jackson, chief financial officer and controller, announced Monday.

Nicole Murphy will oversee talent management, compensation and benefits, training and development, as well as compliance and workplace safety.

Touting extensive experience in leading teams and career development efforts, Murphy served in human resources leadership roles in banking, higher education and technology, as well as with the cities of Lawrence and Bedford.

“We are pleased to have Nicole serve the city in this important role,” Jackson said. “Her experiences in identifying and nurturing talent in both the private and public sectors will help us continue to build a team that enhances our services to residents and business.”

Murphy will assume duties Monday, Sept. 16, with Interim Director Kim Woodward supporting the transition of the role as she continues to assist the Human Resources department on several projects.

“I am privileged to join the City of Carmel,” Murphy said. “A valued and empowered team is extremely important and I look forward to contributing to the success of such a vibrant and dynamic city.”

Murphy earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Evansville and a master’s in business administration from Indiana Wesleyan University.
