Carmel Mayor Sue Finkam announced Wednesday that, effective immediately, Nick Weber will serve as chief of staff for the City of Carmel. He will maintain his responsibilities as executive director of Economic Development for Carmel during this transition period.
With extensive executive leadership experience in both the public and private sectors, Weber will work closely with the mayor, city council, and department heads to execute strategic initiatives and drive meaningful progress for Carmel residents.
“Nick brings a wealth of experience in public service and a deep commitment to our community that will be invaluable as we continue moving Carmel forward,” Mayor Finkam said. “Nick’s strategic thinking, collaborative approach and intimate understanding of Carmel’s economic landscape make him the ideal person for this critical role. I have complete confidence that he will help our administration deliver on our promises to residents while leveraging his economic development expertise to enhance our city’s prosperity.”
In his role as executive director of Economic Development for Carmel, Weber oversees the city’s Redevelopment Department and Department of Community Services. On behalf of the mayor, he has spearheaded the city’s focus on the economic development opportunities that are present along the U.S. 31 corridor. He led internal efforts to increase financial scrutiny of developer-requested incentives and he also increased community engagement in the Carmel Small Business Network.
Prior to joining the city’s team, Weber worked at Faegre Drinker advising public and private sector clients in Indiana and across the country on complex economic development matters, including site selection and incentive projects totaling more than $1 billion in capital investment. He previously served as Deputy Mayor of Economic and Workforce Development for Indianapolis. He also worked in both Washington, D.C., and Indianapolis for former U.S. Sen. Richard G. Lugar. Early in his career, he worked in the administration of Indianapolis Mayor Stephen Goldsmith.
“Having worked closely with Carmel’s business community and stakeholders, I’ve witnessed firsthand the tremendous potential and unique character that makes our city special,” Weber said. “This new role presents an exciting opportunity to broaden my service to Carmel residents while continuing to support the city’s remarkable growth trajectory. I look forward to working alongside Mayor Finkam and our dedicated team to advance the administration’s vision for a vibrant and economically robust Carmel.”
Weber graduated from Indiana University and was recognized as a Forty Under 40 in the Indianapolis Business Journal.
Rebecca Carl, who served as Chief of Staff, announced her resignation last month.
