After 30 years of service to the citizens of Noblesville, Engineer Ben Bender has hung up his gear for the last time.

Bender was raised in Noblesville and graduated from Noblesville High School. He was hired as a Firefighter for the City of Noblesville on Nov. 27, 1989. He has been a driver for over two decades and was one of the first to be promoted to the merit rank of Engineer in 2006.

According to Engineer Bender, one of the highlights of his career was working the day Station 74 opened in 1996. “There is nothing cooler than getting on the truck radio and saying ‘we are open for business,” he said.

Bender spent the last seven years at Station 74, driving Ladder 74 and Boat 74.

Fire Chief Greg Wyant added, “Ben has been a constant presence at NFD for many of us for our entire careers. His 30 years of service will most certainly be missed. We wish Ben all the best as he starts this much deserved new chapter in his life.”
