Last Friday, Walmart customers in Westfield and Carmel were welcomed inside the newly transformed Supercenter at 2001 E. 151st St. as the much-anticipated project is now complete.

Walmart associates marked the occasion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, community celebration, vendor booths, giveaways, and the unveiling of a community-inspired mural by artist Julie Xiao.

To reinforce Walmart’s dedication to the communities it serves, the store manager presented a total of $5,000 to local community organizations, including $2,500 to Meals on Wheels of Hamilton County and $2,500 to Westfield Washington Schools.

During this morning’s celebration, Walmart store manager Ryan Day highlighted the store’s transformations as well as the new interactive features now available to customers, including:

  • Optimized grocery department with expanded Hispanic and Asian food selections, with a total expansion in the Dairy department
  • Front-end transformation with an increased number of associate staffed checkout and self-checkout lanes, and the addition of a Walmart Pay line
  • Expansion of Grocery Pickup and Delivery which will help reduce customer wait times while improving customer experience
  • New apparel lines with a variety of new styles
  • New and expanded merchandise in grocery, dairy and seasonal departments
  • New pharmacy with new private screening rooms for pharmacist consultations and services and privacy checkout lanes
  • Refreshed Vision Center: Walmart created a Vision Center experience designed around the customer that is convenient, comfortable, and affordable that offers an assortment of quality eyeglasses and sunglasses with prescription lenses
  • Remodeled, modernized restrooms, including a Family Restroom

“We have great long-term associates and a fantastic, loyal customer base that care about our store and community,” Day said. “This remodel will benefit everyone who walks through our doors and we are extremely excited to serve the people of Carmel and Westfield.”

The store’s new mural, designed and illustrated by artist Julie Xiao, is an eye-catching installation that reflects the beauty and landmarks of Carmel. The mural is part of Walmart’s Community Mural Program, the largest public-facing art installation celebrating communities across America. Walmart’s Community Mural Program is an important part of each store transformation and furthers Walmart’s commitment to the local community.

The store also recognized four associates for their years of work and dedication to the local store and customers. Those associates include:

  • Jarold Cannon: 36 years
  • Terri Jackson: 34 years
  • Terri Garretson: 31 years
  • Lisa Hiatt: 31 years

This store’s transformation is part of Walmart’s Signature Experience, which seeks to inspire customers and elevate their in-store experience. Upgrades at the Carmel Walmart Supercenter include:

  • More space to discover: Walmart has purposefully created more space for customers to explore and discover the breadth and depth of what their local store has to offer.
  • Digital touchpoints: These new touchpoints located throughout the store help to communicate to customers the vast range of products and services Walmart offers online through the use of QR codes. For example, in Walmart’s Pets area, a customer may scan the QR code to find additional dog bed options, learn about Walmart’s pet insurance service options, or have a 20-pound bag of kibble delivered to their door.

In addition, customers can save time and money by shopping when, where, and how they want. The store continues to offer the following innovations:

  • Pickup – Walmart’s Pickup option has become a favorite among busy shoppers. It provides the convenience of online shopping and allows them to quickly collect their groceries without stepping out of their vehicles. The best part is that Walmart Grocery Pickup is completely free of charge. Furthermore, customers using SNAP in most states have the option to avail themselves of the pickup service as well.
  • Delivery – Walmart’s convenient delivery service is also a hit with customers. Even more, Walmart has now made both pickup and delivery contact free. Express delivery – customers now have the option to have their deliveries made in under two hours.
  • Walmart Pay – a touch-free way to pay

Today, community murals are featured in hundreds of Walmart stores, and original artworks are unveiled weekly in newly transformed stores.
