Never too soon to start training for Geist Half Race Series

Submitted by City of Fishers

There no better time to lace up those running shoes and start training for Indiana’s premier waterfront race in Fishers this fall.

The 17th annual Geist Half Race Series will return on Saturday, Sept. 13 with three race distances for every type of runner and walker.

The challenging half-marathon course features 800 feet of elevation and highlights the reservoir’s iconic waterfront bridges, wooded scenery, and rolling hills. The fan-favorite 10K features the same stunning views with less elevation, and the 5K is perfect for walkers, families with young children, and runners looking to tackle their first race.

All participants will receive a finisher medal, a drink ticket for the after party (redeemable for alcoholic and non-alcoholic options), and a race shirt designed by recent Fishers High School graduate and track athlete Laila Lewis. Earlier this year, Lewis was selected as the winner of the community-wide art contest by popular vote.

Following the race, participants can celebrate at the after party on Olio Road near the intersection of 116th Street and cool off with drinks from MashCraft Brewing, Athletic Brewing, and Java House. Returning for a second year, Hero Hut will offer an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast to raise funds to support veterans and first responders. Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased onsite or ahead of the event.

“The City of Fishers is proud to host Indiana’s premier waterfront race again this year and we look forward to seeing participants cross the finish line of one of the more challenging half marathon courses in Central Indiana,” Race Director Ginny Zimmerman said. “We strive to embrace this small-town feel on a large scale and invite all runners and non-runners to find a way to connect with Geist Race Series. Whether that’s signing up to take on your next fitness goal, sharing your time by volunteering, or decorating your driveway along the course to encourage participants as they pass by. We are excited to grow this event to showcase how fitness events can connect us all to encourage our fellow neighbor to greatness!”
