Never assume, even when it’s a parking ticket

If you regularly park on the square in Noblesville, chances are you will get a parking ticket at some point. If you do, it may not be your ticket.

In late May, one reader (whose name will not be published) parked on the square in downtown Noblesville and received an erroneous parking ticket.

“Apparently, the officer that ticketed my car did not verify it was the same car which was parked there two hours earlier,” that reader told The Reporter. “Now, I could have ignored the ticket with no consequences to me, but that would have meant that the owner of the other car would have been pursued by the city for illegal parking, and that would have been in error.  The other driver might well have paid a ticket that he/she didn’t deserve.”

Instead, that reader took the time to go to the Noblesville Police Department and have the situation corrected both for himself and the other driver.

Not everyone would have taken that extra step.

Not everyone would have even noticed the ticket on their car was not in fact a ticket with their own plate information.

We both applaud this reader’s diligence and sense of community. We also caution all our readers to carefully read any tickets you receive to make sure they are your own.
