Najjar to be sworn in

Hamilton County’s newest judge, David Najjar, will be officially sworn into office in public ceremonies Thursday, Nov. 9 in the Historic Courtroom at the Courthouse. The ceremony involving robing the new judge is set for 3:30 p.m.

Najjar was appointed last Friday by Gov. Eric Holcomb to fill a vacancy on the Superior Court 5 bench. Former Judge Wayne Sturtevant retired in August leaving the seat vacant.

Najjar is not a newcomer at the Judicial Center having served the past 12 years as magistrate for the local courts. Prior to that he was a deputy prosecutor. A Carmel resident, he made a run for judge of Superior 2 in last year’s primary election.

When the current vacancy occurred, Najjar was selected from 17 applicants for the bench. His term of office extends through December of 2020.

The public is welcome to attend the Nov. 9 event. An informal reception and refreshments will follow the formalities.
