Mitch Street, Hamilton Heights football varsity head coach, has resigned as head coach for the varsity football program. Street, a 10-year educator at Heights, will continue his focus on his role as Dean of Students at Hamilton Heights High School.
“It has been an honor to lead one of the best small school programs in the state,” said Mitch Street, who was given the opportunity to step into the varsity head coach role in 2011 at the age of 26. Street, who joined Hamilton Heights as a US & World History teacher in 2008, served three years as the program’s assistant coach prior to stepping into the role as head coach. During this time, Street grew along with the program. He married, became a father of two, earned his Master’s degree, and became a school administrator all while mentoring and coaching students on and off the field.
Street’s seven-year tenure as head coach brought Heights three conference championships, a state runner-up title and a total of six winning seasons. His overall career coaching record ended at 54-27. Season results: 2017, 3-8; 2016, 5-4; 2015, 7-4 (Hoosier Conference champion); 2014, 9-3; 2013, 8-3 (Mid-Indiana Conference champion); 2012, 13-2 (Mid-Indiana Conference champion and state runner-up to Bishop Chatard); and 2011, 9-3.
“I have had the absolute pleasure to serve with amazing people like Chuck Reeves, Smoke Starrett, Jason Simmons, Corey Kiger, Jon Kirschner and many other assistant coaches over the years who have invested their time and energy into bettering the young student athletes they interact with daily,” he noted.
Street took over the program after Jason Simmons (Heights head coach from 2009-11) left to accept the position of assistant athletic director at Ben Davis in 2011. Simmons is the current head football coach at Noblesville High School.
Hamilton Heights Athletic Director Kurt Ogden said, “It has been a pleasure to work alongside a head coach who is as professional as Mitch. He’s a first-class individual who has worked extremely hard to continue the strong culture of winning with our football program over the past seven years at Hamilton Heights. He has developed some great football players but beyond that he’s developed kids who have gone on to be leaders themselves, which speaks volumes about Mitch as a positive role model. With a younger family and a desire to be more involved in their various activities, we totally understand Mitch’s desire to be a part of that. It only comes around once.”
Heights will be looking to fill Street’s position and have a new head coach in place this spring.
