Noblesville, the No. 1 ranked team in Class 4A, traveled to Mishawaka on Saturday to take on the No. 2-ranked team in Class 3A, the Marian Knights.
The Millers were there at 10 a.m. for the afternoon game, and that early preparation helped Noblesville to a 74-55 win, keeping the Millers unbeaten for the year at 9-0.
“I thought we did a good job of coming out and being prepared and being ready to go,” said Noblesville coach Donna Buckley.
The Millers led 15-14 after the first quarter, then pulled ahead 33-21 at halftime. Marian scored 20 points in the third period, but Noblesville took care of business in the fourth, outscoring the Knights 22-14.
“We just felt they got a little bit tired and we hit some big shots,” said Buckley.
Kaitlyn Shoemaker led the Millers scoring with 22 points, followed by Ashlynn Shade with 19 and Reagan Wilson with 17. Shoemaker and Wilson both threw in four 3-pointers. Shade pulled 10 rebounds for a double-double, and also had eight assists. Wilson collected six rebounds, with Shoemaker, Meredith Tippner and Brooklyn Smitherman each pulling five rebounds.
Wilson made seven assists. Shade had five steals and Shoemaker got four steals. Dani Mendez had two blocked shots.
Noblesville is off until Friday, when it hosts Fishers in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference game.
