The Noblesville football team will open its season at Lucas Oil Stadium as part of the Colts Horseshoe Classic on Friday, Aug. 18, the opening week of the high school football season.
The Millers will play Mount Vernon at 8:30 p.m. as the second game of the two-game Classic. The opening game will be between Lafayette Jefferson and Cathedral, and kick off at 6 p.m.
“We were ecstatic when we got the call,” said Noblesville coach Dave Sharpe. “We’re just ecstatic about the season in general. To be able to play in the Luke is a once in a lifetime experience for these guys.”
The Millers-Marauders game was originally supposed to be an away game, but now it will be played in downtown Indianapolis.
“It’s really given our kids, especially our seniors, a nice little something to look forward to on top of being excited for the season,” said Sharpe.
The coach is happy with how Noblesville’s summer workouts have been progressing, saying there has been “tremendous participation.”
“We have such great kids, many of whom play multiple sports,” said Sharpe. “We ask a lot of our Miller athletes, but between Coach McClelland and Coach Keever and the other coaches at Noblesville High School, I think we do a tremendous job of sharing athletes.”
“I really like the vibe that we have,” said Sharpe.
Sharpe also credited NHS athletic director Leah Wooldridge with making sure “we’re in a line and not asking too much of the kids.”
There will be a minimum of 20 minutes between the two games, and the Noblesville-Mount Vernon contest will not start before the scheduled time.
