Millers, Royals advance to Sectional 8 showdown

3A Sectional 8 at Noblesville

Millers get past Tigers

Only in Sectional 8 can the winner of a first-round top 10 showdown advance to a semi-final for a top two showdown.

That was the case for Noblesville, the host of Sectional 8 this year. The No. 1-ranked Millers got past No. 8 Fishers 3-1 in a first-round game on Tuesday, and will take on No. 2 Hamilton Southeastern in Thursday’s semi-finals.

Noblesville scored its first goal in the fifth minute of the game. Meskerem James put the ball in the net, assisted by Sydney Elliott. That would be the only goal of the first half.

The Tigers tied the game in the 45th minute after Elise May scored off a Lilly Touhy assist. Fifteen minutes later, Ava Bramblett scored the go-ahead goal for the Millers, and Elliott added the third goal in the 65th minute.

Noblesville is now 14-1 for the season, while Fishers finished its season 10-5-2

Royals cruise past Muncie Central

Southeastern beat Muncie Central 9-0 in Tuesday’s second first-round game.

Chloe Count scored two goals and handed out two assists for the Royals during the first seven minutes of the game. Caroline Kelley and Riley Boyd each scored two goals, while Sloane May, Izzy Kistler and Mya Burrow all put in one goal. Ayla Conn handed out two assists, followed by one each for May, Kistler, Kamryn Hoyda, Tatum Coleman and Norah Wans.

Southeastern improved to 14-2 for the season.

3A Sectional 10 at Westfield

Carmel, ranked No. 3 in Class 3A, won its first-round game over Crispus Attucks 7-0 on Tuesday.

The Greyhounds advanced to a semi-final game with No. 4 Zionsville on Thursday. The Eagles beat Westfield 1-0 in the Tuesday opener. The Shamrocks finished their season 6-7-4.

 

2A Sectional 24 at Yorktown 

Hamilton Heights, the No. 20 team in 2A, sailed past New Castle 9-0 in a Tuesday first-round game at Yorktown.

The Huskies led 6-0 at halftime. Cassidy Felger, Ella Hickok and Natalie Marcum all scored two goals for Heights, with Sarah Tolle, Emma Linville and Kylie Landis each scoring one.

The Huskies are 12-5-1 and play sectional host Yorktown at 5 p.m. Thursday in the first semi-final game.

 

2A Sectional 26 at Guerin Catholic 

Guerin Catholic, ranked No. 4 in 2A, dropped a close game to No. 5 Bishop Chatard 3-2 in the first round of the Golden Eagles’ sectional Tuesday.

Guerin Catholic finished its season 7-8-2.

 

1A Sectional 37 at Tipton 

Sheridan cruised to a first-round victory at Tipton Tuesday, beating Tri-Central 6-0.

The Blackhawks led 3-0 at halftime, with Mac Smith, Lucy Hester and Lilly Chesney all scoring goals. Sheridan put in three more goals in the second half, scored by Chesney, Suri Birmingham and Hester.

The ‘Hawks are 10-7 and play the No. 17-ranked and host Blue Devils at 5 p.m. Thursday in the first semi-final.
