Millers roar back in seventh inning to win

The Noblesville baseball finally got back on the winning side on Saturday, and did so in dramatic fashion.
The Millers scored all of their runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat McCutcheon 3-2 at Don Dunker Field. The victory ended a four-game losing streak for Noblesville.

“It was a good baseball game, and then our kids just kept fighting,” said Millers coach Justin Keever.

“It was very crucial,” said first baseman Jacob Thieman. Coming off a losing streak, we told ourselves at the beginning of the game that we got to battle.”
After giving up one run each in the third and seventh innings, Noblesville began to battle back. Mark Goudy got on base with a double, then was immediately sent home by a double from DJ Owens.
Owens was sacrificed to third by AJ Gray, which brought up Thieman. The senior sent a double into right field to get Owens home, then moved to third when Bryce Randolph singled. Thieman then ran home on a wild pitch and that ended the game.
“We didn’t want to be too aggressive, but we don’t want to be too conservative either,” said Thieman. “Make sure we got it and run, and with that passed ball, you see it go behind the plate and you just know.”
The Millers were held to four hits, but all of those hits came in the seventh inning. Meanwhile, Ryan Plummer pitched the complete-game win, striking out three and holding a big-hitting Mavericks team to just six hits.

“It’s more important to play the game the right way,” said Keever. “The wins and losses will take care of themselves if we just start doing things the right way and play the way we’re capable of playing and then we’ll have a chance.”
Noblesville is now 7-8 and hosts Frankfort on Tuesday in a makeup game.
