The Noblesville girls tennis team rebounded from a tough loss last Friday to score a big victory the next day.
The Millers, ranked No. 9 in last week’s Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association poll, fell to No. 15 Zionsville 3-2. No. 2 singles Allie Stamm won 6-0, 6-1, then No. 3 singles Josie Flinchum picked up a 6-4, 6-4 victory. The Eagles won both doubles in straight sets, then Zionsville’s Lucy King edged out Noblesville’s Bella Duncan in a three-set No. 1 singles match, 2-6, 7-6 (2), 6-4.
The Millers traveled to No. 3 North Central last Saturday and upset the Panthers 3-2. North Central won the first match at No. 1 doubles, but Noblesville took the next three matches.
Allie Stamm won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 singles, Ava Shoemaker and Jayde Stamm took the No. 2 doubles match 6-4, 6-3, then Flinchum clinched the win with a 7-6 (1), 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles.
“These two are playing together for the first time this year and have started the season with some strong play together,” said Millers coach Chris Pyle.
Duncan again played a three-set No. 1 singles match, this time with NC’s Brooke Ratcliff. Duncan forced a third set, which Ratcliff won. The score was 7-5, 2-6, 6-4. Pyle said both players played an “incredible” high-level match.
This week, Noblesville plays at Avon Monday, then hosts Brownsburg on Tuesday and Hamilton Southeastern on Thursday. The Millers travel to Crawfordsville on Saturday for the Athenian Boosters Invitational.
