Millers get big win at Homestead

The Noblesville girls basketball team scored a tremendous win on Saturday evening, going on the road to play Homestead and coming home with a 69-48 victory.
The Millers were in control from the beginning, as they led 18-6 after the first quarter. In fact, Noblesville extended its lead throughout the next two periods, going up 37-16 at halftime and 58-28 after three quarters.
“I thought our kids played really well on the defensive side,” said Millers coach Donna Buckley. She called it “relentless pressure” that never let up on the Spartans.
“They never really got into a flow,” said Buckley. “They turned it over, which led to some easy opportunities for us on offense.”
“Our pressure was really good for most of the entire game,” said Buckley. “We just flew around all over the place and made them very uncomfortable.”
Ashlynn Shade led Noblesville with 26 points, making four 3-pointers. Kaitlyn Shoemaker contributed 12 points. Reagan Wilson had another outstanding all-around game, with 10 points, seven steals and five assists.
“We had really good balance,” said Buckley. “We came at them in waves. Ashlynn got us going early, Reagan and Kaitlyn made big shots.”
Meredith Tippner led the rebounds with seven, also dishing out five assists and making two blocked shots. Brooklyn Smitherman had two blocked shots as well. Smitherman, Dani Mendez and Ava Shoemaker were assigned to guard Homestead star and Connecticut recruit Ayana Patterson, and Buckley said the three of them did well, saying “they made her work” for her 24 points.
“Those three kids just rotated on her throughout the game and did a nice job,” said Buckley.
Noblesville is 5-0 for the season and plays Tuesday at Carmel.
