The Noblesville boys basketball team finished up its regular season with back-to-back games at The Mill early this week.
First, the Millers took on Bishop Luers in a Monday afternoon game, and won by the score of 66-44. Noblesville outscored the Knights in each of the four quarters, starting with a 17-15 lead after the first period. E.J. Smith made two 3-pointers during the opening quarter.
The Millers jumped ahead 33-23 by halftime, with Cooper Bean scoring seven points in the second period. Noblesville then took control in the third quarter, extending its lead to 51-32. Cameron Karns took over in that period, with eight points. The Millers then added 15 more points in the fourth quarter to finish the win.
Luke Almodovar, Preston Roberts and Karns all scored 11 points for Noblesville.
On Tuesday, the Millers finished their regular season with a tough loss to Mississinewa, 54-49. Noblesville led 8-2 just a few minutes into the game, with Smith scoring all eight of those points, including two 3-pointers.
The Indians went on a 10-0 run to go ahead 12-8, which the Millers answered with a 7-0 spurt. Smith began the run with a free throw, followed by baskets from Almodovar, Bean and Roberts.
A layin by Hayden Ulerick finished the first quarter, but Noblesville was still ahead 15-14. The Millers fought through the second period and were up 26-25 at halftime. Bean and Karns each scored four points, which included a basket Bean scored off a Roberts steal.
Noblesville pulled ahead 40-33 after three periods, with Almodovar adding five points. The Millers were up 49-46 late in the fourth quarter, but Mississinewa finished the game on an 8-0 run to get the win.
“They deserved to win,” said Noblesville coach Scott McClelland. “They played harder, they played tougher.”
Smith (who had to leave the game in the first quarter due to injury), Almodovar and Bean all scored nine points for Noblesville.
The Millers are 12-10 and will now turn their attention to hosting Class 4A Sectional 8 next week. Noblesville plays Zionsville next Tuesday in the 6 p.m. opening game.
