Noblesville took on one of the top teams in Class 6A on Friday, falling to No. 4 Brownsburg 29-8 in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference game at the Bulldogs’ field.
Despite the loss, Millers coach Dave Sharpe said his team did well offensively against Brownsburg.
“I thought we played very, very well offensively,” said Sharpe. “I felt like it was the best we’ve played offensively all season long. We weren’t able to manufacture any points.”
The Bulldogs scored early in the first quarter on a 17-yard run, then added two more scores in the second period, both on long runs, to take a 21-0 halftime lead. Brownsburg then scored in the third quarter, making an eight-yard run.
“They’re so explosive offensively,” said Sharpe. “I’m very proud of the way we fought in the second half. We stopped them on a fourth down to start the second half.
Noblesville scored its touchdown in the fourth quarter on a nine-yard run by Connor Meinerding. Holden Montarsi then made a two-point conversion run.
Owen Jones was the leading rusher for the Millers with 68 yards, followed by Montarsi with 61 and Trey Speek with 50.
“I think our kids are gaining a lot of confidence offensively,” said Sharpe.
Sam Steinhofer made seven tackles for Noblesville.
“Defensively, aside from a couple of big plays from the big-time playmakers, we played pretty well,” said Sharpe.
Noblesville is 1-5 in HCC play and 2-6 overall. The Millers will host Avon next Friday.
