The Noblesville baseball team finished up its Tennessee trip on Saturday by splitting another pair of games.
The Class 4A No. 9 Millers lost their first game of the day to Maryville 5-2. Maryville scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning and held on to the lead from there. Noblesville got one run each in the third and fourth innings: In the third, Mark Goudy scored after Zac Tuinei reached on error, then Tyler Owens singled in Jackson Ramey in the fourth.
Owens finished the game 2-for-3, while Goudy hit a double. The Millers had three pitchers in the game, with Zach Gruver tossing five strikeouts in three and a third innings.
Noblesville regrouped in the second game and beat Christian Academy of Knoxville 11-1 in six innings. The Millers scored six runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back.
Cooper Miles singled in Goudy for Noblesville’s first run, followed by an RBI double for Jacob Thieman that sent Miles home. Tuinei’s single scored Thieman, with Ramey’s double scoring Tuinei. Goudy finished up the inning with a two-RBI single, which got Ramey and Bryce Randolph home.
Noblesville added two more runs in the third inning. Bryce Randolph scored on a fielder’s choice by Goudy, and Camden Nagel was sent home when DJ Owens hit a sacrifice fly.
Owens hit another sacrifice fly in the fifth to get Randolph home. Nagel scored again soon after to make the score 10-1. Finally, Ramey hit the Millers’ third sacrifice fly of the game to score Tuinei in the sixth, and the Millers went three-up, three-down in the bottom of that inning to end the game.
Goudy finished the game 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while Randolph scored three runs. Five different Millers hit a double. On the mound, Tyler Owens pitched all six innings, striking out five and allowing just three hits.
Noblesville is now 3-2 and returns to Don Dunker Field on Tuesday to host Frankfort.
