September 24, 1951 – March 10, 2025
Michael Allen “Butch” Barrick, 73, Columbus, Ind., formerly of Sheridan, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Monday morning, March 10, 2025, at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis. Born September 24, 1951, in Noblesville, he was the son of Charles Guy “Bud” and Mary Jean (Wallace) Barrick.
He was a member of the Sheridan First Christian Church.
Butch grew up in Sheridan and was a 1969 graduate of Marion-Adams High School (now Sheridan Community Schools). During his high school years, he was proud to play football for the Blackhawks. Though his time on the field was memorable, it was his time off the field that was life changing. Butch met the love of his life, Chris, in Algebra class. For anyone who has questioned the importance of advanced mathematics, this is one very good example.
He went to work for Indiana Bell in 1971, where he worked as a lineman, and retired from the company in 2002. Butch always loved hunting and fishing as a youth, and his love of the outdoors continued into adulthood. Retirement afforded Butch more time to devote to the things he loved most: family vacations to Gulf Shores and fishing, especially off the piers.
He was an amazing husband, father, and papaw who loved his family very much, and he will be forever missed by everyone who was blessed to have him in their lives.
Butch is survived by his parents, Charles Guy “Bud” and Mary Jean (Wallace) Barrick of Sheridan; and by his loving wife of 53 years, Christine “Chris” Barrick. She and Butch were married on October 16, 1971. Also surviving are his children, Brian Barrick (Gina) and Michelle Barrick Paine (Andrew); three grandchildren, Tobi Barrick Paine, Gibson Barrick, and Charlie Barrick; three brothers, Chuck Barrick (Sandy), David Barrick (Cathy), and Steve Barrick (Mira); and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Randy Barrick.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2025, at Kercheval Funeral Home, 306 E. 10th St., Sheridan, with visitation from noon until the time of service. Burial will follow at Crown View Cemetery in Sheridan. Pastor Jeff Jones will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be presented to the Sheridan First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
