Dr. James Meacham has been named to the new role of Medical Director of Addiction Services for Aspire Indiana Health, a nonprofit community health system. He joins Aspire from a national addiction treatment company overseeing patient care in Outpatient Addiction Medicine clinics across the state of Indiana as their regional medical director.
Aspire has continued to expand its healthcare for people with substance use disorder (SUD), including the 2019 merger with Progress House, the oldest and largest recovery residence in Indiana, and opening Mockingbird Hill Recovery Center, an addiction treatment center in Anderson, Ind., in 2021. Aspire is the largest provider of recovery beds in Indiana. It also treats Hoosiers with SUD on an outpatient basis at its health centers in Boone, Hamilton, Madison, and Marion counties.
Aspire Chief Medical Officer Dr. Holly Oh said the organization has reached a point where it needs a medical leader solely focused on overseeing and enhancing its addiction services, wherever those patients need care. Meacham will work to develop policies and training to support safe, smooth care processes across the addictions service line and direct provider oversight at Mockingbird Hill and Progress House.
“We are delighted to welcome Dr. Meacham to the Aspire Indiana Health team,” Oh said. “A well-regarded leader in Addictions Medicine in Indiana, he brings a depth of clinical knowledge and experience that will be an incredible asset as Aspire further develops our addictions treatment and recovery services. Addiction disorders are complex conditions impacting health in many ways – physical, emotional and social. Dr. Meacham is a compassionate and skilled provider, collaborator, and leader who will help shape Aspire’s continuum of addictions care to meet the multifaceted recovery needs of central Indiana.”
Dr. Meacham is Board Certified in Addiction Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Pediatrics, earning his medical degree from The University of Louisville. He previously practiced his skills in inpatient treatment of addiction focusing on innovative approaches to treating patients struggling with alcohol, opioid, and benzodiazepine dependence.
