On Thursday, Matt McNally, candidate for Indiana House District 39, shared his vision for the Carmel and Westfield communities after longtime State Representative Jerry Torr announced his retirement.
“I want to thank State Representative Torr for his 28 years of service in the statehouse,” McNally said. “Over the last year, I have had the honor of meeting with 30,000 members of our communities at their door hearing first hand the values they want represented in the Statehouse. I look forward to continuing those conversations in my campaign to be the first Democratic State Representative in Carmel and Westfield.”
Matt McNally, a 22-year military veteran, first ran for the seat in 2022, narrowly losing the newly redrawn district by only 1,300 votes. McNally, a Vice-Commander at the VFW Local 10003 and Westfield Kiwanis Club board member, announced his intention to run again in May.
Danny Lopez, a sports executive and longtime Republican operative who worked for the Mike Pence gubernatorial administration, has also announced his intention to run for the seat.
“Next year, Carmel voters can send Matt McNally to the Statehouse instead,” said Indiana Democratic Party Chair Mike Schmul. “Matt is a champion of working families and is standing up for the future of Carmel’s amazing school system in the face of Republican cuts to public education and right-wing extremist groups like Moms For Liberty.”
“Matt’s passion for public service and his commitment to speaking directly to residents of his district drew me to volunteer for his campaign in 2022,” said Erin Retif, McNally’s campaign manager. Retif is the current President of the Carmel Democratic City Committee and was previously an elected New York State Democratic District Leader and Chair of the Pelham (N.Y.) Democratic Committee.
Retif continued, “I’m proud to be alongside him again in 2024 as he works to serve the people of Carmel and Westfield.”
McNally said he ready to get to work.
“Carmel and Westfield residents value the freedom to achieve the American Dream,” McNally said. “They want to live in a place where they can easily start a small business, buy a first home, and give their kids a world-class education. As a retired military officer, I understand the importance of working for a common goal, and I am ready to continue working together for Indiana.”
