Veteran Matt McNally has secured the Democratic nomination for state representative in House District 39.
McNally, who retired from the military after achieving the rank of lieutenant colonel, has a distinguished military career, including chief of operations for a command joint task force in Afghanistan and director of operations for an Air Force Attack squadron.
“My entire career has been about putting others ahead of myself,” McNally said, “and the people of Carmel and Westfield deserve leadership at the statehouse who will put them first. Over the past few years, we’ve been subject to out-of-control property taxes, the fifth-highest gas tax in the country, and leadership that puts special interest groups ahead of Hoosiers. Hoosiers deserve better. I’ve led combat operations overseas, crossed party lines to improve airline safety, and worked every day to help the veterans in our community. There is still more to be done, and I am ready to serve and work together for Indiana.”
McNally is an airline pilot and involved community member and leader. He serves on the board of directors for the Westfield Kiwanis, as the Senior Vice Commander of VFW Post 10003 in Carmel, and as a member of the Stronger Veterans Stronger Communities coalition, an organization with the goal of reducing veteran suicide in Indiana. As an alumnus of Carmel Citizens Police Academy, he is also a member of the Carmel Citizens Police Alliance, and previously served as a volunteer for Exodus Refugee, where he taught English to Afghan refugees in Indiana.
He lives in Westfield with his wife, Brooke, and their children Aidan and Isabella.
