Maureen Kopatz

June 19, 1948 – April 12, 2022

Maureen Kopatz, a.k.a. Mo, passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at Community Hospital North in Indianapolis. She was born on June 19, 1948, to the late John and Catherine (Simon) McDonough in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Maureen was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. As a healthcare professional, she was always available to family and friends in times of need to offer comfort and advice. She was there through childbirth, sickness, and times of uncertainty. She was an amazing cook and enjoyed entertaining family and friends. She frequently prepared meals for her co-workers too.

Mo had a servant’s heart and dedicated her life to helping others. She worked for more than 40 years as an RN where she found her true calling in Labor and Delivery. In her career, she comforted and coached hundreds of women as they gave birth and provided just as much care to their babies as they made their way into the world. She was a fierce patient advocate and was respected by all. She mentored numerous nurses and was depended on by the entire staff as she held a leadership position for most of her career. She was the quiet in the storm.

After retirement she enjoyed cooking, reading, painting, boating, and attending grandkids’ games and events. She spent a great deal of time with her husband, siblings and their spouses and was happiest when she was surrounded by the ones she loved.

Maureen was an organ donor and even in death continued to care for others – her tissue donation will benefit breast cancer survivors and burn victims.

Maureen is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, John. She was a proud mother to Cara (Dan), Katie (Dave), and Corey (Nicole). She was the most adoring grandma to 10 grandchildren, all of whom she helped usher into the world – Maureen, Avery, Peighton, Kendall, Jack, Chase, Danica, Will, Forrest, and Harper. She had a very close relationship with her siblings Marilyn (Jim) and John (Marilyn) and beloved nieces, nephews and other family members.

Her Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Randall & Roberts Fishers Mortuary, 12010 Allisonville Road, Fishers. Visitation will be from noon to 4 p.m. with a service starting at 4 p.m. Scrub attire welcome.

Memorial contributions may be made to the March of Dimes, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, St. Jude’s or your favorite animal shelter.
