Mary Kathleen (Dowling) Muth

June 15, 1938 – June 21, 2021

Mary Kathleen (Dowling) Muth, 83, Carmel, and formerly of Brookfield, Wis., passed away on June 21, 2021. She trusted and believed in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and is now resting in His presence. God is always faithful and to be praised!

Mary grew up in Wauwatosa, Wis., with her younger sister Carol (O’Rourke Dowling) playing piano and loving the Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers. She graduated high school from Divine Savior Holy Angels and went into nursing at Marquette University. On February 7, 1959, she married William A Muth, Jr. They moved to San Francisco after Bill graduated with his Civil Engineering degree from Marquette fulfilling his ROTC commitment with the U.S. Navy.

Two years later with the Navy Reserves, they moved back to Milwaukee, Wis.. Soon after, Bill’s job as Director of Public Works for the City of Brookfield took them to Brookfield, Wis., where they raised their family for the next 50 years. They were active in St. Dominick Catholic Church and many community activities.

Mary had very dear, lifelong friends in the neighborhood, playing Bridge, and attending St. Dominic’s Church Circle.

As a teaching assistant, she blessed many students at Burleigh Jr. High School who needed some patient and unconditional love as they caught up in classes.

In 2011, they moved to the Stratford of Carmel to be closer to their daughter for help in their last years. Bill passed away in 2012, with many of his grandchildren around him. Mary lived at the lovely Barrington of Carmel for her last five years of life. She had many wonderful friends in Carmel and attended St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Weekly, Mary got to experience the joy and blessing of her seven great-grandchildren. She loved them with all her heart. They lovingly called her GG!

Mary is survived by her sister, Carol Dowling O’Rourke (Jim); son, Bill (Mary, and children, Sarah and Robert (Emily)), son, James (Martha, and daughter, Kelly); daughter, Kathleen (Michael, and children, Mary (Brian), Michael (Janice), David (Kirsten), Timothy (Jennifer), Stephen, Daniel, and Alison; and so far, seven great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Cosette, Grace, Dietrich, Rori, Emma, and Judah. Before Covid hit, Mary adopted a kitty who took care of her like an angel sent from Heaven.

A Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church in late July of 2021. Please check with the church for the exact date and time. There will also be a Celebration of Life at the Barrington, soon to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully accepted by St. Dominic’s Catholic Church.
