Mary Carolynn (Huffman) Moore, 90, Zionsville, passed away at home on October 1, 2021, following several months of home hospice care. She was born on January 28, 1931 to William (Bill) and Della (Havens) Huffman, joining siblings Martha Jean (Ralph) Hensel, Katie (Milford) Campbell, Ethyl Mae (Bob) Smith, and Donald (Libby) Huffman. Following the death of her mother at a young age, her father married Marie Gayer, who helped raise her from the time she was 10. All of them preceded her in death.
Mary met her future husband, Herman Moore, Jr., on a blind date to Ideal Beach (now Indiana Beach) on July 4, 1948, and they were married on September 3, 1949, after she graduated from Lebanon High School in the spring of 1949. Prior to starting a family, she was a purchasing clerk at Pittman Moore, Indianapolis. She then worked on their farm, along with Jr., while raising her family. Besides farming, Jr. worked as a cable splicer and engineer for Indiana Bell Telephone/AT&T. He died on April 8, 2008, at age 80.
She is survived by two sons, David William (Zionsville) and Donald Raymond (Indianapolis), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was well-loved, and never met a stranger that she couldn’t find something to talk about with them. Special thanks to her niece Kae Campbell (Lebanon), who was instrumental in helping with her care, and to the staff of Care Hospice of Carmel.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at Kercheval Funeral Home, 306 E. 10th St., Sheridan. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at Kercheval Funeral Home with Visitation from 1 p.m. until the time of service.
She will be laid to rest at Wright Bethel Cemetery in Boone County, east of U.S. 421 on County Road 300 North.
